Geometric Inference on Kernel Density Estimates

چکیده
We show that geometric inference of a point cloud can be calculated by examining its kernel density estimate with a Gaussian kernel. This allows one to consider kernel density estimates, which are robust to spatial noise, subsampling, and approximate computation in comparison to raw point sets. This is achieved by examining the sublevel sets of the kernel distance, which isomorphically map to superlevel sets of the kernel density estimate. We prove new properties about the kernel distance, demonstrating stability results and allowing it to inherit reconstruction results from recent advances in distance-based topological reconstruction. Moreover, we provide an algorithm to estimate its topology using weighted Vietoris-Rips complexes. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.2.2: Nonnumerical Algorithms and Problems

The Relative Improvement of Bias Reduction in Density Estimator Using Geometric Extrapolated Kernel
One of a nonparametric procedures used to estimate densities is kernel method. In this paper, in order to reduce bias of kernel density estimation, methods such as usual kernel(UK), geometric extrapolation usual kernel(GEUK), a bias reduction kernel(BRK) and a geometric extrapolation bias reduction kernel(GEBRK) are introduced. Theoretical properties, including the selection of smoothness para...
متن کاملInference for Comparing Two Treatments Using Kernel Density Estimation
In randomized clinical trials, nonparametric approaches are considered when assumptions of a parametric approach are not reasonable. Nonparametric approaches have typically concentrated on hypothesis testing and, unlike parametric approaches, have not been amenable to providing measures of treatment efficacy. If X and Y denote the random variables representing the responses on two treatments A ...
متن کاملCONSTANT STRESS ACCELERATED LIFE TESTING DESIGNWITH TYPE-II CENSORING SCHEME FOR PARETO DISTRIBUTION USING GEOMETRIC PROCESS
In many of the studies concerning Accelerated life testing (ALT), the log linear function between life and stress which is just a simple re-parameterization of the original parameter of the life distribution is used to obtain the estimates of original parameters but from the statistical point of view, it is preferable to work with the original parameters instead of developing inferences for the...
متن کاملClassical and Bayesian Inference in Two Parameter Exponential Distribution with Randomly Censored Data
Abstract. This paper deals with the classical and Bayesian estimation for two parameter exponential distribution having scale and location parameters with randomly censored data. The censoring time is also assumed to follow a two parameter exponential distribution with different scale but same location parameter. The main stress is on the location parameter in this paper. This parameter has not...
متن کاملMulti-locus data distinguishes between population growth and multiple merger coalescents
We introduce a low dimensional function of the site frequency spectrum that is tailormade for distinguishing coalescent models with multiple mergers from Kingman coalescent models with population growth, and use this function to construct a hypothesis test between these two model classes. The null and alternative sampling distributions of our statistic are intractable, but its low dimensionalit...
